About the Job
As an Engine Electronics System Validation Engineer, you will be a member of a highly engaged team delivering solutions for dynamic and fast paced NPI programs related to diesel, dual fuel, compressed gas and after-treatment technology. Areas of responsibility include developing and understanding hardware, software and system failure modes, developing test plans, executing validation on open loop, closed loop HIL, and actual engine platforms, documenting results, analyzing bench and field data for system troubleshooting and supporting efforts to improve team efficiencies through automation and other process initiatives. Significant coordination and interfacing is required across organizations to execute the job responsibilities, including engine process partners, component engineering, engine application team, test and validation, software development, service teams, and other internal process partners.
Responsibilities
FMEA engagement and proactive risk mitigation
Assist in electronic component failure mode analysis
Project schedule coordination with the team
Test Plan Creation
Test Plan Execution
Test Results and report documentation
Develop and validate control system strategies and functionality
Collaborate with internal customers and team members to develop software specifications
Test and verify components and software strategy operation on benches, in test cells, and on vehicles
Perform system validation of solutions and strategies to insure 100% effectiveness
Project schedule coordination with the team
Diagnostic and Service Test system design
Robust System integration
Future Generation ECM and component technology evaluation and integration
ECM harnessing architecture and pin out definition
FMEA engagement and proactive risk mitigation
NPI issue management
Field data and diagnostic monitoring
Support component selection from suppliers
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or 2-4 years diesel engine system experience in a professional environment.
Required Technical Skills:
Ability to use PC tools such as MSOffice, Visio
Prior Cat experience is required
2-4 years of engineering experience
1 year experience working with HIL systems
2 years of experience working with diesel engine systems
Must have understanding of diesel engine combustion process, exhaust gas re-circulation system, after-treatment
Experience developing direct injected diesel engine controls
Experience using Matlab/ Simulink in software development
Experience utilizing development and data analysis tools (e.g. CANape, CANcase, eDaq, etc.)
Experience working with customers and suppliers
Hands on experience troubleshooting engine systems in customer/dealer environment
Understanding of FMEA process
